Sand filter in a commercial RO Plant is used to remove suspended contaminants, as well as floating and sinkable particles. Gravity is used to feed the wastewater vertically through a bed of fine sand and/or gravel. To get rid of particles, use absorption or physical encapsulation. If there is a significant pressure loss, the filter needs to be rinsed. Filters come in two varieties:
- continuous and
- discontinuous
With continuous filters (usually upward-flowing filters), the impure sand is continuously removed, cleansed, and reused without interrupting the filtration procedure. In order to execute a rinse in the opposite direction, filters that are not continuous are turned off (these are often downward-flowing filters).
Sand Filter in Commercial RO Plant
Air bubbles are blown into the sand bed in order to cause it to spin. The filtered water then flows through the filter bed in the opposite direction. The unclean material is ejected, and the rinse water follows. The filtration procedure might then continue after that. The yield of a sand filter is determined by two sand filter processes: surface filtering and depth filtration. In surface filtering, the particles are gathered above the filter bed. Together, these particles create a macro-porous mass that is capable of efficiently capturing new particles.
A variety of materials will be captured by your sand filter. Your sand filter’s sand will trap microscopic particles that range in size from 20 to 100 microns.
Applications of Sand Filter in Commercial RO Plant
- To remove iron from groundwater, aeration, and sand filtration are used.
- Following metal precipitation and sedimentation, wastewater is finally purified to remove any last traces of metal-based sludge.
- The final step is the purification of wastewater from the manufacturing of iron, steel, and non-ferrous alloys.
- There are several methods for preparing sand for filtering, including flotation, coagulation/flocculation/sedimentation, and precipitation/sedimentation.
- Purification of wastewater, which may include paint and grit from shipyards and sandblasting.
- It is also used as a last purification step to enable re-use (or before active carbon filtering).
- As a slow sand filter for drain water disinfection in greenhouse horticulture.
Advantages of a sand filter
1- The main benefit of a sand filter is the straightforward approach that can be used to provide excellent yields in a variety of situations. In several stages of water management, a sand filter can be employed as a pre-treatment, side-stream filtering, or polishing filter.
2- Sand filters typically provide reusable effluent. On the other side, adding chemicals can be necessary to increase the sand filter’s output.
Updating requirements
Backwashing a sand filter is easy. Turning off the pump will cause the water to stop flowing through the filter. Once the pump has stopped, unroll or affix the backwash line and switch the pump’s setting valve to “Backwash.” After turning it on, let the pump run for a time.
Initially clear, the water will eventually turn darker as more dirt and particles are cleared away. Before shutting off the pump, let the water run until it is nearly clear once more. When the setting valve is set to “Rinse,” the pump should run for 30 to 45 seconds. Reconnect the backwash line and the pump’s original setting after washing the filter before starting it again.
